Book Excerpts

Through the Scent of Water

“Thank You, God,” I blurted aloud into the darkness, a sweet peace beginning to dawn in me. It was a precious insight that set me free to pray as I ought.

Threads From His Hem

So she walked alone.
She found the trek refreshing to her spirit, for she could talk with God.

She knew His voice; often her joy was so intense, she felt her heart could hardly contain it.

Fourth Watch

I cannot keep a summer;
I cannot stay the snow,
Nor bar a leaf from falling…Let go, my heart, let go!

The Winds of God

Jesus is the Light, and that Light by His grace becomes our standard.
He is the Truth, and His light within us enables us to live the truth.
He is the Way, but we would not find the Way to follow if it were
not for that Light.

First a Fire

God’s promise is my cradle,
His love my cover, and His care my cage
Invisible that keeps the lions from meThe while they rage.

Footprints

Jesus looks over my shoulder, guiding my faltering hand, Giving me sweet contentment when following His command.

Fly High My Kite

An elephant crossed o’er a rickety bridge.
A flea followed hard in its wake,
And when they were over, the flea proudly said,
“My! how we did make that bridge shake!”

Pig Boy

Maria was startled by another mewling cry in the mire.”A baby! A living baby!”Who on earth could put a litttle baby in a pigpen to be mauled and eaten by swine? Clucking her concern and pity, Maria lifted the child, her horror mixed with indignation.

Quickly she wrapped him in the rag she’d grabbed to twirl around her hand. “Little boy,” she murmured. “Who are you? Who will feed you? Who will care for you?”

Five Loaves and Two Small Fishes

There’s a touch of heaven in many things-
A nesting bird, and a lark that sings;
A rustling leaf, and a croaking frog
And the friendly nuzzling of a dog.

Oasis

Like a lily lifts its chalice to be filled with summer rain, So I lift my heart to Thee, Lord, to be filled with love again;

Praise Him

I think about my Lord when in the eastern skies. The dawn steals in and breaks in glad surprise!

What If…

What if the father had said, “he deserves
to be left in the cold; let him savor the pain
he has dealt me, the worry, anxiety, hurt;
I won’t go meet him, and risk it again.
I’ve loved him, he scorned me; I gave him his share,
he squandered it all; I’ve had all I can bear.”
What if he had bolted the door? And I cry…
    It could have been I…
