the life & works of
Margaret Penner Toews
Margaret Penner Toews was indeed a very talented and gifted lady. Though a successful author and painter, her primary interest was her faith in Jesus Christ, and that others would come to know Him. There are many stories, (some of which will be shared on this site), of how Margaret lived life guided by her faith, putting her beliefs into practice, and as a result, deeply touching the lives of others, either in person or through her books and artwork.
Prayer for Our Friends
Thank you, Lord, for those who care
When troubles press my soul.
Thank you, Lord for helping hands
When waves of sorrow roll,
For prayers my loved ones offer
Which I have not deserved:
Had they not interceded
Well oft I might have swerved.
Thank You that in everything
We’ve never stood alone.
In all Life’s circumstances
So many friends we own.
Lord, bless them all some special way
As only you can bless,
With strength for every trial
And indwelling happiness.
Book Spotlight
Through the Scent of Water
“Thank You, God,” I blurted aloud into the darkness, a sweet peace beginning to dawn in me. It was a precious insight that set me free to pray as I ought.
Threads From His Hem
So she walked alone.
She found the trek refreshing to her spirit, for she could talk with God.
She knew His voice; often her joy was so intense, she felt her heart could hardly contain it.
Fourth Watch
I cannot keep a summer;
I cannot stay the snow,
Nor bar a leaf from falling…Let go, my heart, let go!

Reminisce
Our first meeting is etched in my memory. You were visiting relatives next door and had requested I come over in order to meet and get acquainted. The first words you said to me were: “Are you a humble person?” I stammered. How was I to know you had a compliment waiting? I’ve long forgotten the compliment, but I well remember how thrilled I was to meet you, someone I’d been hearing about. Read More

I got to know Margaret when Milton brought her to Alberta after they got married. We would often meet in the community or share meals at each other’s homes. We enjoyed each other’s company and talked at length about poetry and music. We also worked together, putting her words to music. Our girls would help us sing to get the right harmony and eventually we put a songbook together called “Praise Hymn”. Read More

Memories of the many times we spent together. She always had a way of going deeper than talk about the weather; always went further than just telling a story of her past, and brought out a truth or lesson I otherwise would have missed. Time with her and Grandpa was pleasant and relaxing, but it did require me to open and stretch my mind beyond where I usually went. They have had such a large influence on my perspective; it’s impossible to cut them out of my own history, and even who I am today. Read More

Tell Us Your Story
Milton and Margaret worked as a team. Milton was Margaret’s “editor in chief”, as well as her business manager. Their common goal as they worked together was that all who read Margaret’s books and admired her paintings would receive a blessing.
If you know Milton and Margaret personally, or know them through Margaret’s books and paintings, we would love to hear from you! Let us know how they have touched your life and we will add your comment or story in the “Reminisce” section of this site.
